If you’ve been following me on Twitter and have wondered what #blogher is when I reference it in my tweet stream; I’ve decided to post a little about it.
What is Blogher? It’s definitely the buzz word on the world wide web! I had no idea how huge it was when I came across Blogher last Fall. In my quest to learn about Social Media, I discovered several amazing networks that were alive in the online world that I rarely had time for and Blogher was just one of them!
Blogher is the internet’s leading “participatory news, entertainment and information network for women with a mission to create opportunities for women who blog to pursue exposure, education, community and economic empowerment.” It was founded by three women (Lisa Stone, Elisa Camahort, Jory Des Jardins) around a kitchen table in 2005, and today Blogher reaches over 14 million women monthly through conferences. That’s what I call the Power of Women Allies!
Blogher is held in Chicago this year (July 24-25th) and after hearing more about the buzz, I registered for it back in February just before it SOLD OUT! Can you believe it? Sold Out 4 months early!! The Conference is filled with sessions, whether you are a Blogger newbie or an advanced Blogger. Going to Blogher is about bringing the online relationships and connections into “real life,” as well as learn and go to the next level in your blogging, whether it’s for personal or business. I’ve had the opportunity to meet several online friends in real life at smaller conferences recently (Sobcon ), as well as other tweet ups.
Oh, the Social gatherings! There is plenty of parties and the list was overwhelming. Too many cool gatherings with a ton of great swags (gift bags full of goodies from various sponsors and companies). Companies “get” the powerful influence women and mommies have and many have participated in Blogher from the smallest to the greatest! I’m excited to be meeting several more of my online girlfriends in real life this weekend!
Thursday I will be attending a few a pre-Blogher festivities and the first, being a Lunch & Learn with our very own Fox Chicago news anchor Nancy Loo and 25 other influential women Bloggers from Chicago. Nancy will be sharing her “camera ready” tips with us. With all the exposure women and mommy Bloggers are getting these days, you never know when you will receive a call to appear on television- so why not be “camera ready!”
