Why I Switched to Alcohol Free and Poison Free Hand Sanitizers

With the cold and flu season and the H1N1 pandemic, many of us are taking extra precautionary measures and are probably stocked up on hand sanitizers and wipes as temporary relief from germs and bacteria. I’m fanatic about hand hygiene but I’d much rather wash my hands. Unfortunately, when I’m out in public or at a grocery store touching carts and things that others have also rummaged through, I don’t always make a restroom stop just to wash my hands before going to my car. Honestly, who has time?

Besides, most bathrooms are way at the back of the store…and if you take your kids out shopping with you, by the time you’ve paid the cashier, you’re ready to get out of there!

I started keeping hand sanitizers in my purse or in the side of my car panel all year round so that I can quickly wipe off germs that I may have picked up while being out and about; however, I hated that my hands were always so dry afterward from the large amounts of alcohol used in the typical hand jells. I began a search for an alternative hand sanitizer that was effective to kill germs and that is also alcohol free.

My research on various hand sanitizers led me to discover how potentially dangerous hand sanitizers were! I had no idea that the alcohol in the sanitizers could cause such fatal results if ingested by kids. Fortunately, my kids never ingested any that I knew of. They are much older now and we’ve been using alternative hand sanitizers for some time, but even when they were much younger, I always squirted hand sanitizers on their hands while out in public hoping to kill germs and bacteria but not realizing if they accidentally swallowed some, how harmful that could’ve been. The caps were not hard to open at all!

I realize that we are constantly exposed to chemicals, toxins, and harmful bacteria but a mother endeavoring to raise healthy kids, once I’ve been informed of a product that is not safe; especially in terms of having a fatal warning, I will make every effort to steer clear from any product  that will compromise my family’s health. For me, it’s important to make informed buying decisions.

cleanwellMy quest for alcohol free and poison free hand sanitizers led me to a local health store and discovered an alternative hand sanitizer called CleanWell that kills 99.9% of harmful germs, is non-toxic, and safe for kids to use. Also, it does not dry out my hands! Hand washing is definitely preferred and the best solution to getting rid of germs; however, for temporary use, I’m happy to know that there is an alternative to the alcohol based sanitizers that are out on the market today and to know that if any child accidentally ingest it, that it would not cause fatal results.

I want to recommend that you take a moment to watch this segment on the Today Show, which warns parents to beware of hand sanitizers and also featured CleanWell as a safe alternative.
