The Perfect Laptop Travel Bag for my Digital Mates and more

by Duong Sheahan on July 30, 2010

I don’t’ know about you…but I do not like having to carry multiple bags when I travel or go anywhere in which all of my digital mates must accompany. Well, maybe not “must” but, yes…“must!”

I’ve been searching for the perfect laptop travel bag especially for when I’m attending Social Media events or conferences such as Blogher in New York City coming up, traveling with my husband or even a quick trip to the parents for an overnight. I own several laptop bags and even over sized purses but quite honestly, they are just not meant for all of my digital gadgets.

Some of my friends have asked in the  past…”when you’re traveling, why don’t you just disconnect?” Or “Why do you need to travel with all of these gadgets?” It depends….. if I’m traveling to a secluded island maybe I’d consider disconnecting. But really, I love all things digital and they’ve become a part of my everyday life; from taking random photos of people, places and things; my Nikon D3000 camera has been a part of the electronic family pack.

For Social Networks like Twitter and Facebook, my BlingBerry (Blackberry) has been my best friend.  I called it a BlingBerry because… well, as you can see in the photo, it’s pretty blinged out.

Also, as a student, my Asus Netbook is a lot lighter carrying around than my 17” laptop and unfortunately being in school year round, I can’t neglect logging into my online class even while I’m traveling.

My newest electronic buddy and generous gift from my husband–the iPAD has been great for catching up on some reading… something I love to do but barely find the time with school work. And of course that’s not all I use it for but that’s for another post.

Occasionally, I’m inspired to capture a video or VLOG and even though it’s been rare, I never know when my FLIP camera will come in handy; hence, the search for the perfect travel bag for all of my digital mates and more.

After going to several high end stores with a hefty price tag, I ended my search at TJ Maxx close to my home and found the perfect bag with all the functionality that I was looking for. This travel bag, a light nylon fabric and thin leather straps will be easy on my shoulders and back and won’t send me to the chiropractor after a long day.

It has a specific compartment that securely holds my netbook and the rest of the space will allow for all of my other digital mates with room to spare for you know… “specialty items” that I may find while I’m out and about.

I’ve been telling myself that I’m not shopping in New York City this trip. No, I’m Not Shopping in New York City.” Like talking to my kids, sometimes I have to repeat what I say a couple of times (to myself)!

Not only was this a great find, but for an Ellen Tracy designer label,  it didn’t break my pocket book either at $24.99!! The original tag reads $120.00!! Wowza…I love a good bargain!  I had a hard time choosing from the three different styles that were available but I’m happy that I went home with this one.

After filling this bag with all my “must haves”…it is the perfect laptop travel bag for my digital mates and more.

One more thing…I surely won’t be leaving this bright HOT PINK bag behind anywhere!

How thin are the straps? The problem with my bag is that the straps are TOO thin and they cut into my shoulder. Wish I had a wider strap, or maybe one of those pad things that can make the strap less painful.

Cute bag Duong!!!

Funny, I’m working on a posts on something similar but not as glamorous as yours. Mine is a take on how much cords I’ll be packing to run the electronics I have to bring. You can imagine, right?! lol.
