Social networks like Twitter has changed the way people communicate and interact today. It’s amazing how we can have conversations with multiple people from all over the world simultaneously and in “real time.” Being able to connect right away is what makes Twitter so powerful. Recently, I found that to be a close encounter; when my daughter can’t reach me, she tweets me.
The first time I received a tweet from my daughter, I was stunned! Evidently, my phone was on silent and after many failed attempts to contact me, she decided to send me a tweet.
“@duongsheahan: IDK how to get a hold of you. Can you pick me up?”
When I was her age, we did not have the convenience of reaching our parents by cell phones and social network wasn’t even in our vocabulary or thoughts. Both seemed like something from outer space; something I’d only see on Star Trek.
While Skyping with a good girlfriend from another state late last night…we were being like two high school girls, giddy and loud laughs forgetting that everyone in my house is sound asleep…well not quite. I happen to turn on Twitter to see….
“@duongsheahan: Trying to sleep here…”
Amused, and of course the laughter turned into hush. After failing to reach me with a text (because my phone battery died); not wanting to yell downstairs or get out of her cozy bed… she remembered….if she can’t reach me, she can tweet me! It worked…again.

That’s funny! Our boys are now 6 & 7 yrs old. If Jesus Christ tarries I wonder what they’ll be doing to reach me when they become teenagers.
