Sometimes I wish lived on an organic ranch somewhere in the mountains, away from everything that’s polluted; but the reality is, I don’t. We are constantly exposed to things that can potentially make us ill, hence it’s important to keep our immune systems strong and healthy by using various preventative measures. From eating healthy, taking vitamins, and scrubbing under the nails (where 90% of germs live) is a great way to to prevent germs and bacteria from entering your system.
I’ve always known that cell phones harbored germs, but recently studies revealed that cell phone could be making us very ill.
One of the studies from Journal of Applied Microbiology showed that touch screen phones such as the popular Iphone can pass up to 30% of germs from the device to your fingers. Once it lands on your fingers, those germs begin to spread due to the amount of times we are unaware of touching our nose, month, or rub our eyes. It’s been said that we do this approximately 3 times within a five minute period.
This is a prime opportunity for welcoming bacteria and viruses into our system. What about all of the with kids owning cell phones these days, as a parent I’m always on my kids about cleaning their phones and keep their fingers away from their face. By the way, next time you need to borrow someone’s cell phone…hopefully they’re in the habit of cleaning it too!
Another study showed mobile devices are 18 times dirtier than toilet handles in a public bathroom! That alone ought make us more conscious about wiping our phones regularly. I’ve purchased the individual travel size wipes that I keep in my purse specifically for cleaning my cell phone.
The truth is, germs and bacteria are everywhere and we can’t avoid them, but we can limit our exposure to them. The more preventative measures we take, the healthier we’ll remain.
You’ve probably read this in my other posts, but it’s worth repeating, “An ounce of prevention equals a pound of cure.” With that said….let’s clean those cell phones!
