Along the shores of Lake Geneva is not only a summer oasis for many well known Chicagoians (ei: The Wrigley Estate) but also The Geneva Lake Shore Path-roughly 21 miles (just a few miles short of the Chicago & Boston Marathon-26 miles). That’s no small feat, especially if you’ve participated in either of those marathons.
The Geneva Lake Shore Path is a wonderful way to enjoy nature, see some of the most spectacular hundred year old mansions, breathtaking landscapes, and absorb in the serenity of the great outdoors of Southern Wisconsin.
I’ve yet to hike the entire 21 mile path but I’ve enjoyed taking mini hikes and leisurely strolls for miles this summer while staying at one of my favorite retreats in the Midwest-The Abbey Resort & Avani Spa (Fontana, Wisconsin); other times, taking a day trip for lunch with family and friends.
(with my friend Christine below).
Geneva Lake Shore Path is a must do for tourists visiting Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Whether you’re in Fontana or in the town of Lake Geneva, there are several designated areas to enter the walk path from. From the Abbey Resort, the walk path is within steps away.
Be sure to wear comfortable shoes as you’ll be trekking on concrete and level ground one minute to up and down steps and trails the next. I sported a pair of New Balance that’s made specifically to go from the treadmill to the trails. You’ll also want to bring water for the hike/walk.
With Midwest Autumn upon us, the trails will be graced in changing colors-this would make for an amazing photo walk. I can’t wait to get back to the walk path within the next few weeks to enjoy the Fall foliage.
Whether you’re up for the 21 mile hike or a short stroll, the Geneva Lake Shore Path is one of Wisconsin’s most beautiful trails.
